If you would like to be kept up to date with the upcoming lists, please subscribe to my newsletter by clicking this link. I don’t send out letters too often, pretty much once a month when this list goes out… and occasionally if I release a book or something.

As always, this is not a comprehensive list, but only includes all the books I have heard about so far.

If you have a fantasy novel you are self publishing in August or beyond, let me know by filling out THIS FORM, and I shall add it to the page. There are but 3 requirements:

1) It must be a self published fantasy novel.

2) It must have a Goodreads page.

3) It must have a cover.

1st August – Amethysts & Alchemy #1 by Rachel Rener

Urban Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Cozy Fantasy

I used to eat rocks as a child.

The family doctor diagnosed me with pica, dooming me to years of intensive therapy and extensive dentistry work. It wouldn’t be until much later that I would understand the all-consuming, insatiable craving that spurred me to eat a variety of rocks and minerals wasn’t a mental disorder, but an innate gift that allows me to extract the magic contained inside them: tourmaline for speed, celestite for strength, augite for a powerful laxative effect (that I had to discover the hard way).

Twenty years later, I’ve hidden my abilities beneath a white lab coat, working as a small-town pharmacist who creates proprietary “naturopathic” tonics that treat everything from memory loss to erectile dysfunction. Those tonics, in turn, fund my expensive lifestyle of solo flying around the world to search for more rocks. What more could an airplane-loving, mineral-munching, magical alchemist want?

Unfortunately, my arch nemesis, Heath Spencer, has recently taken it upon himself to single-handedly ruin my life. No longer content with annoying me from afar with his overpriced, tacky rock shop, Heath has decided to further antagonize me by dangling the opportunity of a lifetime right in front of my face: traveling to an ancient copper mine in China, which is home to some of the rarest and most stunning minerals on Earth.

It’s not until after I’m trapped halfway across the world with my least favorite person on the planet that I’m forced to come face-to-face with three terrible realizations: everything I thought I knew about Heath Spencer is wrong, some minerals were never meant to be ingested, and – worst of all – I’m not the only one who’s been keeping secrets…

22nd August – The Barbarian (Battle Brothers #3) by Casey Hollingshead

Grimdark, Sword & Sorcery

Ah, the true heart of the its winter. Much has been said of the region’s hostile climate, that it is a beast in and of itself, a spirit wreathing your very soul in freezing tendrils. And it’s true. The common hexe has nothing on the ice that isolates, the frost that frightens. She stands second to this suffocating cold which so easily corrupts minds into desperate imaginations. I shall return with books entirely dedicated to this bastard weather, for here my ink bottle hasn’t the depth to replicate its horrors. But I will try and answer succinctly, borrowing from a common northern refrain. You asked of me, ‘What do I think of the north?’ and so here is the simplest Death would be warmer.

Mercenaries, bound by an impossible contract, traverse a treacherous territory rife with conniving noblemen, secretive scribes, and monstrous creatures. Amid sieges, perilous escapes, and costly battles, these sellswords must stand strong against the creeping cold of the north. 23rd August – Upscaled (The Dragons of Nora #1) by Joseph John Lee

YA, Cozy Fantasy

It begins and ends, as things do, with a girl throwing a birthday party for a dragon. Or it would, if things were ever that simple.

Generations ago, the Inquisition of the Priory of the Thrice-Dead Prophet decided that dragons were a great evil and it was their duty to banish them from the land of Nóra. The dragons weren’t (they just grew tired of the bother and migrated north), and the Inquisition didn’t (they just pretended otherwise), but that’s beside the point.

Though evidence of dragons still existed, it remained within the realm of smugglers, ne’er-do-wells, and people with too much time and money on their hands . . . until a hatching egg finds its way into the hands of a young girl named Ailís.

Now, with the first newborn dragon seen in generations in her company, Ailís finds herself beset by merchants, brigands, Inquisitors, and a greedy governor, and all she wants to do is throw a birthday party for her dragon.

And you thought planning a party for your kids was tough.

28th August – Of Secrets and Solace (The Children of Fate #1) by Ellysa Marin

Epic Fantasy, Grimdark, Romance

In a world dominated by war and the relentless pursuit of truth, how far would you go, what secrets would you keep, to protect that which you hold most dear?

Elyria was once home to the gods.

It has been a millennia since the gods were imprisoned in Meru by Fate, but wisps of their magic remain embedded in the blood of humans—some with the ability to wield that magic, and others with the ability to store it. Rulers of free territories are forced to ally together–or fall alone–in a bid to protect their territories from a growing conflict between the descendants of Kaos and Solace, one that threatens to boil over completely.

The Truthsayers and the Keepers—descendants of Kaos and Solace—receive messages from their imprisoned gods in the forms of truths and visions. Each group acts on the perceived will of their god in a bid to eradicate the other, paving the way for the gods to escape Meru and continue their fight against Fate.

General Rohak d’Alvey sold his soul and traded his family’s beliefs for a seat at the Warlord’s table, but his position is growing increasingly uncomfortable; especially as he uncovers powers and knowledge his closest friend has hidden for decades.

Lex d’Talionis, a Mage in the Warlord’s army, has command of both Pain and Pleasure—an anomaly in Elyria. Awakened as a teenager, Lex devoted his life to service in the Northern Territory’s army under General d’Alvey, but he holds information of his own—information that could cripple the Warlord’s plans.

In Hestin, a Warlord-allied territory, Miss Ellowyn d’Aelius prepares for her Awakening ceremony where she will discover not only her magical affiliation but also her designation. Her parents-the Lord and Lady of Hestin-and brother are all some variation of an Elemental, and she expects to emerge the same. But when an elusive Priest of Fate appears to conduct her ceremony and she begins to have strange dreams of a cracked landscape plagued by a magical storm, Ellowyn starts to wonder if there is more to her heritage than her family is telling her.

Further south, the war between the Last Keeper and the Warlord spills over into the Borderlands—a territory with no allegiance—and Faylinn, a scholar and healer with no magical affinity and no memories, is sucked into a conflict she tried to avoid. When her village is destroyed and her mentor disappears without a trace, Faylinn must decide whether to stay and help her people rebuild, or accompany General d’Alvey back to Vespera in a bid to unearth the secrets hiding in her memories.

Kaos and Solace grow restless and the Children of Fate must decide what they will do when the gods once again walk in Elyria.
